Researcher Services

Remote/Virtual Research Assistance

For researchers who are unable to visit in person, SCRC staff can assist with specific research questions via phone or email. Email spcoll@appstate.edu or call at (828) 262-4041 for remote research help. This service is open to all researchers, with priority attention given to App State students and faculty.

Research Consultations

SCRC staff members can provide in-depth, personalized research assistance by appointment. This service is available to all researchers, and strongly encouraged for first-time visitors to Special Collections or others who may be unfamiliar with the unique processes of archival research.
Research consultations may be focused on searching archival and/or rare book collections, identifying relevant sources for a specific project, requesting materials, revising a research question, or other research needs. Appointments typically last 15 minutes to one hour, can take place in-person or via Zoom, and are generally unavailable during holidays and semester breaks.
Please email spcoll@appstate.edu to set up an appointment.

Circulation & Interlibrary Loan

Many books, videos, and sound recordings in Special Collections may be checked out by patrons with valid App Cards or Community Borrower cards. Circulating materials are available for Interlibrary Loan. For information about who may borrow materials, please check the Borrowing services page. App State Libraries also issue Community Borrower cards.
